Layering Necklaces 101:
When it comes to jewelry today, the only rule to follow is that there are no rules. It is no longer about just wearing one statement piece. More is ok. It’s all about combining a number of chains of different lengths, metals, stones and charms with each other to create a striking layered masterpiece which should feel effortlessly unique. You can go for dainty and delicate combinations or mix bold, contrasting combinations together for an even more of a statement look.
Mastering the art of layering can be difficult, but all you need is creativity and a little help in choosing the right chains to create your look. So when you start layering necklaces here’s some things you need to keep in mind!
How many chains?
The layering trend is all about you wearing chains over chains over chains and that’s fine you can follow this, but don’t overdo it! Fashion editors advise keeping it to a maximum of five chains when layering.
Keep the scales different.
Add a thick chunky necklace with a delicate chain and don’t be afraid to throw in a little extra touch with a raw pearl or bead necklace in there as well. The scale of the chains is important to keep it balanced.
Layer the different lengths.
The key is to have gaps between chains. And to have equal amounts of space between the gaps. Mix and match chain styles. Everything from herringbone chains, to rope chains, and curb chains- they all make great layering staples.
It is important to have at least one necklace that is long (chest length), one that is medium length (below the collarbone but above your chest), and one or two even that sit near your collarbone.
Express yourself.
Pick a piece that is special to you. You can easily express yourself by adding a fashionable personalized pendant, a lucky charm, or pretty letter pendants engraved with your initials or a special date! So take a risk and explore what works with your personal style. How will you be layering your necklaces this season?!
