Natural ruby can vary widely in color, from light to dark reddish purplish hues & is the most sought after red gemstone, representing the birthstone for the month of July. The most valuable rubies are those with a deep blood-red color, called “pigeon blood red” and a high level of clarity. Like a diamond, cut quality and carat weight also determine the value of a ruby.
With ruby being one of the "Big Four" and a highly sought after gem, it is very important to be aware of man made simulants and lab created 'rubies' available on the market.
