The Effect of Fluorescence on Diamonds

The Effect of Fluorescence on Diamonds

Fluorescence is a characteristic of a diamond that makes some diamonds appear to change color when they are exposed to an ultraviolet light that either surrounds us from sunlight and /or in lights produced by fluorescent light bulbs.

Fluorescence is usually blue, yellow, or white. For example, if a yellowish diamond fluoresces blue, the effect can be enough to disguise the yellowish tint, thereby making the color of the diamond appear better.

Strong yellow fluorescence can bring prices down. Blue fluorescence can have an increase value on the price of a diamond with yellowish tones as it makes the stones appear whiter.

Fluorescence is subtle and you will probably not see it as a true color change, but more of a slight shift in tone. In the end, it is important to you to be happy with the diamond you purchase.
